JAMES RUDOLPH HAMM was born in Selma, AL to his proud parents, Herman Hamm and Mary Ellen Gardner
Hamm. He had two brothers, Robert and Marvin. Rudolph met Irene Powell in Montgomery, AL, and they were
married on January 27, 1947. They had four children:
Joan Sargent (Bill)
Diane Edwards (Mike)
Debbie Dean (Dennis)
Gary Powell Hamm (Russell)
Rudolph also was the proud grandfather and great grandfather to the following:
Rodney Oglesbey (Sherry) and his daughter Kayla
Rebecca Kelly (Shawn) and their daughter, Kaitlin
Brady Oglesbey (Nicole) and their children, Dustin, Christian and Mason
Clayton Edwards (Erin) and their son, Dalton
Rudolph was known and loved by all the children in his neighborhood of Wilkes Circle, where he has lived since
1953. He enjoyed working in and watching his garden grow and sharing it with his friends. He was also an avid
Atlanta Braves fan.
James Rudolph Hamm enlisted in the Marine Corps on Jan. 3, 1942, at the age of 16 years old. He had to fib about his
age to join and trained at Parris Island and then at New River (now Camp Lejeune). Rudolph turned 17 years old
while serving on Guadalcanal. He participated in action against Japanese forces on Guadalcanal, B.S.I.; Cape
Gloucester, N.B.; and Peleliu, Palau. After being discharged he returned to Montgomery, AL, and then to Midfield, AL,
where he retired from U.S. Steel after 33 years of service. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion.
Predeceased in death by his loving wife, Irene, on July 31, 1988, and beloved friend Loraine Hammock. His extended
family includes Loraine's children, Aubrey (Mary Lee), Cherry (Steve), Joe (Sharon), Norman (Michelle), Connie
(Butch), and Diane (Lee). He will be missed by all including his mischievous pet beagle, Henry.
WE LOVE YOU, "GOOD NEIGHBOR"
